Other Voices Publishing Society was founded in 1988 by a group of local women who were committed to providing a non-mainstream, non-commercial venue in which outstanding women writers could seek publication for their work.
Today, Other Voices remains committed to publishing the best fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and visual artwork by contemporary female and male artists. Our twenty years of publishing in Edmonton, Alberta have made us a literary mainstay locally and abroad. We’ve been home to the writings and artwork of new and emerging talents such as Christopher Barnes, Greg Grace, Lee Anne Pellerin and John Valente as well as award-winning established authors such as Beth Goobie, Shirley A. Serviss, Gloria Sawai, Patricia Young and Marilyn Dumont.
We appeal to those who need to express their voices and their diverse perspectives. We have acquired a strong readership and have proven to be an important publication that appeals to both writers and readers of outstanding contemporary writing. Our readers are intellectual women and men who have a sense of humour, who are open-minded and who cringe when reading “his strong arms and the smell of tweed.” They are discerning, charismatic and like long walks in the woods. We cater to intellectual readers of all ages. They are loyal subscribers and, quite frankly, they are really cool.
Other Voices would like to invite you to support us by advertising in our journal of literary and visual arts. Be seen in the magazine that the Edmonton Journal described as “voices from outside the mainstream pushing the limits.”
